Tower Crane Erection & Dismantling
Mobile cranes, operators and riggers to erect and dismantle our clients’ tower cranes on construction and industrial sites.
Erecting Your Tower Crane
Tower cranes arrive on site in sections and are built up piece by piece: the base, the mast sections, the slewing unit and cab, the jib, the counter-jib and the counterweights. At the end of the job they come down again the same way. That work is done with a mobile crane. JMB Cranes does not own tower cranes. We provide the mobile cranes, operators and rigging teams for tower crane erection and dismantling of tower cranes that belong to our clients.
Tower Crane Work We Have Done
- Royal Eswatini Sugar Corporation: assembly of tower cranes as part of plant maintenance and expansion work. Read about the project.
See more of our completed projects.
What the Work Involves
- Offloading and setting out tower crane sections on site
- Placing the base and lifting the mast sections into position
- Lifting the slewing unit, cab and top sections
- Assembling and lifting the jib and counter-jib
- Placing the counterweights and ballast
- Dismantling in reverse order and loading out at the end of the project
Choosing the Right Mobile Crane
The heaviest component, the height it has to reach and the distance from where the mobile crane can stand decide the crane needed for the job. We look at the tower crane’s erection information, the site layout and the ground conditions, and recommend the right mobile crane and rigging, rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. See our mobile crane hire and rigging services.
Planning and Safety
Tower crane erection and dismantling depends on the weather, and lifts only go ahead within the wind limits for the crane and the components. We agree the lift plan and sequence with your tower crane team and site management before the day, check the set-up area and ground, and work within the site’s safety system and permits.
Mobile Crane or Tower Crane?
Not every project needs a tower crane. For shorter jobs, a mobile crane can often do the work without the time and cost of erecting and dismantling. Read more about mobile cranes and tower cranes, or ask us for advice on your project.

Q2: Can you also dismantle the tower crane at the end of the project?
A: Yes. We take tower cranes down at the end of a project with the same planning as the erection.

A: It depends on the size and configuration of the tower crane, the site and the weather. We will give you a plan for the job when we quote.
Q4: What information do you need to quote?
A: The make and model of the tower crane, its configuration (height and jib length), the weights of the heaviest components, the site location and access.
